Tableau 3 from Traité complet de l’anatomie de l’homme, comprenant la médicine opératoire, by Jean Baptiste Marc Bourgery.
This reference was published between 1831-1854 and consisted of 16 volumes in 8, with over 2000 pages and 726 hand-coloured lithographed plates incorporating 3604 individual figures. Many of the beautiful lithographs were coloured and painted by Nicholas-Henri Jacob, who was a student of the neo-classical painter Jacques Louis David. The project was the focus of Bourgery through the last 23 years of his life, the last volume being published posthumously. Given its detail and breadth, it is considered one of the most comprehensive surgical and anatomical atlases of the nineteenth century.
